About the Legacy Collection
Why the Legacy Collection?

Having owned The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort for over 30 years, Charles and Virginia Kirkwood have embarked on a renaissance of this historic resort. The resort had gone through many incarnations over its 90 year history and the Kirkwoods were looking at what legacy they wanted to leave their children. Decisions were made to create a luxurious set of accommodations that embrace our local environment, encompass an old world Arts & Crafts style and offer amenities expected in an opulent destination. Because of their connection to Asia, the décor would take on a decidedly Asian feel. These suites and cottages would pamper guests and give them the ability to indulge in the activity or inactivity that brings them serenity. The name Legacy stuck because that is the heritage they wanted to leave. A tradition of excellence, an emphasis on culture (Asia), and suites and cottages that offer guests a one of a kind experience.
History
The Legacy Collection is located in the village of Shawnee on Delaware, Pennsylvania. The Village was established between the years of 1724 and 1740 when Nicholas Depuy purchased 3,000 acres from the Minsi tribe. In the late 1890’s C.C. Worthington took up residence in Shawnee. Mr. Worthington built the neighboring Shawnee Inn and their 27-hole golf course. He was also the well known inventor of the first commercial gang mower that is used in most golf courses and in the landscaping industry today. The owners of the Legacy Collection admire Mr. C.C. Worthington for his developments in the village, hence they decided to name one of the buildings of the Collection - Worthington.
